Adobe Warns of Reader and Acrobat Attacks

Adobe started investigation on new reports about hacker attacks using previously unknown bug in the latest version of Reader and Acrobat software. It is said that Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.2 and some earlier versions are exploited in the wild. Adobe stated that this vulnerability has been found by partners in the security community, and no public reports of the issue have been reported yet. With Adobe Reader and Acrobat along with Flash Player software installed on a great amount of computers all over the world they have recently become a very attractive target for cyberthieves. We will have to wait for the investigation to end before actually doing anything though, but keep in mind that you might need to update Adobe programs in near future.

Adobe Flash’s security woes

99 percent ofInternet-connected desktops have Adobe’s Flash Player software installed, offering up multimedia and video capabilities on a multitude of popular Web sites. But lately Adobe Flash Player technoligy has become a preferred vector for cyberthieves. There are two versions of possible causes – first stands besides the Flash populary, with such a large amount of users using the system it gets attention from hackers. The second version implies that Adobe simply lacks tight security practices in its internal development procedure, giving those with bad intentions more space to move in. Adobe says its security practices are up to snuff, but still we would recommend you keep an eye on all updates of the product since they can easily be crucial to your privacy.

Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP SP2 support runs out in july

this week Microsoft reminded that support for Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP2 will end in july 2010, meaning that from that point of time Microsoft company will no longer relesase updates for these products. Windows 2000 Server will lose it’s Extended Support at the same time, and Windows Server 2003 along with Windows Server 2003 R2 will get this status instead of current Mainstream Support. Microsoft offers current users of Windows 2000 to switch to Windows Xp, Windows Vista or Windows 7, while Windows Xp SP2 users can upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 or simply get SP3.

Microsoft denies “black screen of death” issues

A recent problem that some Windows 7 users expirienced was having completely black screen after logging on got lot of attention after report by BBC on Tuesday. British software security firm Prevx claimed that most likely cause of the error were changes to Microsoft’s operating system’s registry, however Microsoft denied that. As Microsoft stated, the software giant had all the reports that its November security updates made changes to permissions in the registry that are resulting in system issues for some customers invastigated and claims that all of these reports were inaccurate and can’t be connected to the recently released security updates. They also claim that Microsoft support team hasn’t seentthis issue as big for users.

Twitter-style Service launched by Microsoft in China

A micro-blog service based on Windows Messenger has been launched in China by Microsoft,  expanding social-networking functions linked to the chat software in a country where it is a hit. The new service, which is called MSN Juku and is now running in beta, offers users to post 140 character messages to an update screen that slowly scrolls old messages to the right as the new ones appear. A lot of Twitter-style services have appeared in China in recent months as social-networking sites grow increasingly popular, so the new MSN service is likely an effort by Microsoft to win more users for its social-networking products as well as its instant-messaging service.

Metasploit Releases IE Attack but calls it “unreliable”

The Microsoft Internet Explorer security bug that was disclosed last week yet again takes our attention – this time developers of the open-source Metasploit penetration testing toolkit have released code that can compromise IE browser, however the code cannot be called reliable. As the developers said tehmselves – the bug is unreliable, you can’t be sure that you will be able to compromise one’s browser. As stated by Microsoft – there hasn’t yet been any attacks using this exploit in the wild. As stated by the software giant, only IE versions 6 and 7 may be effected and Microsoft has already released a Security Advisory that offers workarounds to guard against the flaw.

Templates added for Google Sites

It is now even easier to create a website using Google Sites utility, since they have added new templates for the service. You can choose from a whole galary of templates, using the premade page design and gadgets, hyperlinks for page navigation will be created automatically. The themes include wedding webpages, websites for schools, churches and inners profile websites. Also any user can add his site as a template, which will allow useres a great number of templates to choose from.

The first Windows Mobile 7 Beta will see the world in the first quarter of 2010

Rumors say that in the beginning of 2010 Windows is preparing a beta version of its next mobile operating system Windows Mobile 7 for the mobile makers to get their devices ready, the official release is expected on the third quarter of the year, so the manufacturers will have enough time to prepare their products for the new OS. The Microsoft official position stays the same: no dates are told until the operating system will be ready, however the downfall of sales of the smartphones using Windows Mobile and the steps Google Android is taking will most probably make Microsoft to quicken the release. The main difference of the Windows Mobile 7 from its earlier versions is multitouch technology, as Android 2.0 is said to have it and Apple products already do.
