Your Internet Browsers leave a unique “hand-print” on the Net

February 1st, 2010 admin No comments

The assumption that an Internet user can be recognized by his IP address and his Cookie files  only was proven to be incorrect. The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Organization has launched their own online-test Panopticlick(http://panopticlick.eff.org/) which is designed to demonstrate how easy it is to recognize the needed machine profile among hundreds of others on the Net. It all comes down to “digital hand-prints” – the data which is left over on the visited resource by the users computer, especially his Internet browser. When taken together, the information about users plugins, time zone, display settings, etc can form a unique profile which will lead back to the original user, even if his cookies were erased and the IP address changed. It is quite easy to see the possible practical applications of this, EFF states that advertisement companies have been using this methods of profiling for a long time now.

Google Unveils Chrome OS

November 23rd, 2009 admin No comments

Since the last week when Google gave the world a glance at its new OS – Google Chrome OS there has been a lot of dispute. The main priority of the netbook operating system were supposed to be emphasizing speed and simplicity, but it surely starts to look now like project’s priorities may be weaknesses. The new OS is simple, so simple that at first glance one can say that it’s just a webbrowser with some additional tools or addons. However the cloud-based model used has the potential for extremely fast computing including boot time. After summing all the things going around at the moment my personal opinion is that it’s probably too tell if it’s a hit or a failure, as we have only seen a peace of the operating system and there sure will be a lot of changes before the official release next year.

Adobe Shockwave Player Bug Fix

November 4th, 2009 admin No comments

It is highly advised for all users of Adobe Shockwave Player (and there it is used on more then 450 million computers) to update it to the last version 11.5.1.602. Adobe Systems itself classified this update as “critical” as it is fixing 5 vulnerabilities, 4 of which may allow an attacker to execute malicious code on a computer, while the fifth one could lead to a denial-of-service condition. Since the vulnerabilities in operating systems have become something quickly dealt with, hackers tend to use vulnerabilities in third party applications as this one more often. Urgent update is advised by both the Adobe Systems Company and IT specialists.

A website was added by Microsoft containing a database of software and hardware Windows 7 is known to work fine with. Although the database is not even close to being full at the moment, it does have an option for users to give information on additional software that they tested working under Windows 7, so we expect it to be more reliable in future. You can visit this website through this link.

Twitter against spammers

October 16th, 2009 admin No comments

A new tool has been added to Twitter – a very popular microblogging service. Now users can call attention of staff members to certain profiles by clicking new “Report as spam” button. It is not fully automated so reporting just any profile you don’t like won’t do any good. Even if its not software related, we consider this change to be on the topic of spam protection and thought it might interest you.

Many computer manufacturers have announced new versions of portable computer designed to work with the latest Microsoft operating system Windows 7. The excellent press and feedback Windows 7 is getting along with its multi-touch compatibility made PC manufacturers crazy, and it seems they decided to milk the soon-to-be-released 7 as much as possible, not to forget the system requirements for the new OS being much more moderate then power-hungry Vista. HP, Acer, Dell – it’s just the top of the list, and we expect even more companies to turn their heads to the upcoming breakthrough.
