Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP SP2 support runs out in july

this week Microsoft reminded that support for Windows 2000 and Windows XP SP2 will end in july 2010, meaning that from that point of time Microsoft company will no longer relesase updates for these products. Windows 2000 Server will lose it’s Extended Support at the same time, and Windows Server 2003 along with Windows Server 2003 R2 will get this status instead of current Mainstream Support. Microsoft offers current users of Windows 2000 to switch to Windows Xp, Windows Vista or Windows 7, while Windows Xp SP2 users can upgrade to Vista or Windows 7 or simply get SP3.

Google Chrome browser now realeased for Macintosh computers

Google has realeases a new version of its Chrome browser for Macintosh useres as competition for Safari Apple offers owners of its machines. Late last year Google released a web browser for personal computer running on Windows making a rival for its own Internet Explorer. The Macintosh version is still in beta version and doesn’t yet include customization features. Google has also released a version of its browser for open-source Linux operating system covering all three most popular OS in the world.

New ESET NOD32 beta for Mac OS X and Linux

Eset antivirus company announced the beginning of beta-testing of their new products designed for Mac OS X and Linux which will go live in the beginning of 2010. New software is based on the fourth generation of ESET NOD32 antivirus core, using ThreatSense technology allowing to identify even the newest viruses no yet in the virus signature databases. The company will be adding the list of the Mac OS X and Linux harmful programs to their threats lists to be able to cope with all the problems their useres might be meeting. Mac OS X version currently supports Mac OS X 10.5.x (Leopard) andMac OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard), while Linux version runs on RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu, Suse, Fedora, Mandrivaand some others. The most dangerous domain names on the web

More then 30% of the website using Cameroon domains (a country in western Africa) are dangerous and harmful for internet users according to annual report by McAfee. Criminals tend to like the first level domains of Cameroon (.cm) as they are very often visited when mistyping the usual “.com”. Such internet website can be almost identical to the website you were originally trying to visit, however may content harmful code that may be using browser vulnerabilities to get access or virus/malware on your computer.  However “.com” domains are not that safe either, since they too have a large percentage of harmful sited on the list. Domain names of Japan(.jp) and Ireland(.ie) and Croatia(.hr) where named the safest among the countries and of course “.gov” “.edu” – safest on the whole web.

Google limits free access to the news

News agencies now will be able to set special software to specify and limit free access to their content though Google. This is the result of the accusations that news agencies made towards Google for making profit on their news base. A number of such agencies even wanted to cut off Google at all and were talking with Microsoft in order to use software’s giant search engine Bing. As the result Google now redirects users who have already visited 5 free articles to the payment and registration page. Wall Street Journal already requires payment to watch, and Times and Sunday Times will soon follow.

Microsoft denies “black screen of death” issues

A recent problem that some Windows 7 users expirienced was having completely black screen after logging on got lot of attention after report by BBC on Tuesday. British software security firm Prevx claimed that most likely cause of the error were changes to Microsoft’s operating system’s registry, however Microsoft denied that. As Microsoft stated, the software giant had all the reports that its November security updates made changes to permissions in the registry that are resulting in system issues for some customers invastigated and claims that all of these reports were inaccurate and can’t be connected to the recently released security updates. They also claim that Microsoft support team hasn’t seentthis issue as big for users.

Twitter-style Service launched by Microsoft in China

A micro-blog service based on Windows Messenger has been launched in China by Microsoft,  expanding social-networking functions linked to the chat software in a country where it is a hit. The new service, which is called MSN Juku and is now running in beta, offers users to post 140 character messages to an update screen that slowly scrolls old messages to the right as the new ones appear. A lot of Twitter-style services have appeared in China in recent months as social-networking sites grow increasingly popular, so the new MSN service is likely an effort by Microsoft to win more users for its social-networking products as well as its instant-messaging service.
